Steps to Reset a PS4 Controller

After learning how to connect a PS4 controller, here’s how to perform a quick or full reset.

Using the Reset Button

  1. Locate the small reset hole on the back of the controller near the L2 button.
  2. Use a paperclip to press and hold the button inside for five seconds.
  3. Reconnect the controller via a USB cable and press the PS button to resync.

Reconfiguring via the Console

Plug the controller into the PS4 using an official USB cable, then press the PS button to reconnect.

Why Reset a PS4 Controller?

Resetting your controller can fix connection issues, joystick drift, or problems after connecting the PS4 controller to an Android device. It’s also useful if you're performing a PS5 controller reset.

What Happens After a Reset?

A reset will erase custom settings and require manual reconnection via USB. If issues persist, contact PlayStation Support for further assistance.
